This policy explains what Koinus LLC (“Koinus,” “we”) collects when you use the Koinus website, iPhone or Android app, and related services. It is written to match Apple App Store and Google Play data-safety questions. Using Koinus means you agree to this policy and the Terms of Use.

Information we do not collect
Bank logins or passwords; full card numbers; contacts; precise location; advertising IDs; or analytics that identify you to other companies. The camera is used only when you choose Scan. We do not upload your photo library.
Scan and documents
Scan runs only on your device. The photo, PDF, pasted text, or file shared from another app is read to pull payee, amount, and date. Koinus releases its temporary source files and raw text when the read finishes or you cancel. The scanner does not write them to device storage, upload them to our servers, share them, or send them to an AI service. The server refuses scan document uploads. Only the lines you confirm (payee, amount, date, category) go into your household books. Koinus does not delete the original file still sitting in your phone, email, or cloud. Details are in the document policy.
How we use information
To create your account, sync your household books, send sign-in mail, provide support you ask for, keep the service secure, and meet the law. We do not use your books for advertising or to train public AI models.
Who we share with
We share information only as needed to run Koinus: our hosting and database providers; Resend for account email; Apple or Google if you sign in or bill through them; and a household partner you invite. If you email Support or share a screenshot, your mail or sharing app receives what you send. We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose information if required by law.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Saved budget records use AES-256-GCM with server-managed keys. This is not end-to-end encryption: the server must open records to sync your household. Encrypted drafts on the device use a non-extractable key; if the device cannot encrypt, the draft is not written. Budget backup downloads are encrypted on your device with a password you choose. Koinus does not receive or save that backup password. You control the downloaded file; we cannot recover a forgotten backup password. Older JSON exports may be unencrypted. Sign-in passwords are stored as hashes. This does not make the service risk-free.
Retention
Account and book data stay until you delete the account or we must keep a record of a legal request. Scan source files and raw text are released after reading or cancellation; unconfirmed review fields are discarded when the review closes. Account emails follow the email provider’s retention. Backups, logs, and copies you or a partner exported are not instantaneously erased everywhere.
Your choices
- Export a copy: Settings → Books → Export encrypted backup.
- Delete the account: Settings → Account → Delete account, or the website deletion page. Deletion removes your sign-in, personal books, and household membership after the server confirms. If a partner remains, shared books stay with them. Cancel any subscription separately with Apple or Google.
- Help answers run on your device. Help questions and budget summaries are not sent to an AI service.
Children
Koinus is a household ledger for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email support@koinus.com and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product changes. The date at the top is the current version. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
